This weekend's 'Four Color Fest' marks the 40th anniversary of UI mathematicians Wolfgang Haken and Kenneth Appel being the first people to prove a major theroem with help from a computer.

URBANA — Here's the task: Color a map of the United States so that no two adjacent states have the same color.

What's the least amount of colors you would need?

The answer to that question took mathematicians over a century to prove, with the assistance of a computer at the University of Illinois.

URBANA — With 57 days left in the year, Urbana police haven't had to investigate a single homicide in 2017.

That's a far cry from last year, when it saw four, marking "an all-time high in the 24 years that I've worked here," police Chief Sylvia Morgan said.

URBANA — An Urbana woman who picked up a package at the post office containing thousands of dollars worth of cannabis was arrested Friday.

Urbana police Sgt. Andy Hewkin said detectives from the Street Crimes Task Force were alerted by postal inspectors Friday that they had a suspicious package at their Urbana facility.

DECATUR — After Dracy "Clint" Pendleton shot Mahomet police Officer Jeremy Scharlow on May 7, 2016, state trooper Jeffrey Denning responded to the code red call and collided with a van turning left into its path, killing its driver, 26-year-old Kelly Wilson.
