Man hospitalized after shooting in Champaign

When they arrived, officers found a 24-year-old man who had received a single gunshot wound to the abdomen inside the home.

CHAMPAIGN — Police are investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital on Saturday night.

According to a Champaign police report, officers were called to the 1000 block of North Neil Street at 10:18 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired there.

According to a Champaign Fire Department report, firefighters were called to a blaze at a two-story duplex at 804 Crescent Drive, Unit B, at 9:26 p.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived they found moderate smoke coming from the first floor windows of the building.

URBANA — An autopsy will be conducted today in Urbana on a homeless man discovered dead Monday in Urbana.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup identified the man as Jeffrey L. Gray, 60, of Urbana.

Northrup said Mr. Gray was pronounced dead at the scene in the 400 block of West Griggs, Urbana, at 12:20 p.m. Sunday.

He said there was no evidence of foul play.
