After nearly a half-century in medicine, Dr. William Youngerman is hanging up his otoscope.

CHAMPAIGN — He's treated countless patients in his own hometown. And after nearly a half-century in medicine, Dr. William Youngerman of Christie Clinic is hanging up his otoscope.

The 78-year-old ear, nose and throat doctor is retiring at the end of the day Friday, and with mixed feelings.

He felt it was time, he said. But he's loved being a doctor.

Pritzker signs law legalizing recreational marijuana in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD — Recreational marijuana use and possession will be legal in Illinois beginning Jan. 1, 2020, after Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a bill Tuesday in Chicago that supporters said is the "most equity-centric" legalization effort in the nation.

AVON (AP) — Authorities say a sheriff's deputy has died after being shot while responding to a call in Illinois where a suspect was barricaded in a home.

Illinois State Police say the Fulton County sheriff's deputy was responding to a battery and disturbance call about 2 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Avon, about 165 miles southwest of Chicago.
